Our second day in Croatia ended in the suburbs of Dubrovnik. We decided to stay at the Radisson Blu Dubrovnik Sun Gardens (after the Radisson Blu Split) located 15 km away from the city center and really easy to find. Dubrovnik International Airport is located 35 km from the hotel.
The Radisson Blu Dubrovnik Sun Gardens is a big Resort divided in two parts, the hotel itself and residence rentals. The checkin was done quickly and we headed to our room.
The reception is at a mid level. There are 3 levels below the reception level and 3 above it. To get a nice view, make sure to book a room above the reception (deluxe room, level 4 to 6).
Entering the room was a pleasant surprise, very luminous, with a nice entry hall. On the right, you get some storage and a safe. The floor is covered with wood and the room is very modern. A large bathroom is separated from the room only by a glass wall, so you can have a shower while keeping an eye on the sea. There’s a large balcony with two lay chairs where you can relax while enjoying the magnificent view of the Adriatic and the Elaphite islands. The surroundings of the hotel are very quiet.
The resort offers several restaurants ranging from a buffet to gourmet food, Italian to a butcher’s grill. We had a Club Sandwich at Maraska Bar and it was only average.
In the morning, we enjoyed breakfast at Origano restaurant. The terrace with the view on the sea combined with the breakfast buffet is the perfect place to start the day.
As we only spent one night here and had a busy program with the visit of Dubrovnik’s Old town, we had no time to try all the facilities, but they are numerous: nice smimming pools, beach with crystal clear water, tennis courts, fitness room etc. The Resort is family friendly with a playground, kids pool and a dedicated kids club. If you’re traveling without kids you’ll be happy to know that there is an adults pool only too. A special mention goes to the extensive SPA: the pools, different Saunas, steam room and Hammam are the perfect place to relax and indulge.
What we enjoyed the most
• View from the Room
• Free parking
What is improvable
• having to pay for the shuttle to Dubrovnik town (90 KN / 11€ – only 4 times per day)
• overpriced local wine
• very uncomfortable sun loungers on the beach
Tips for staying at Radisson Blu Dubrovnik
• don’t forget water shoes or you might hurt your feet at the pebbly beach
• book a room on levels 4-6
• perfect place to relax- not so if you plan multiple trips to Dubrovnik’s old town (≈25 minutes) and pricey (Taxi: ≈30 €)
• be advised that there are a lot of steps and/or steep footpaths on the property
