For our two days visit in Philadelphia in May 2015, we stopped at the Sofitel Philadelphia. It is conveniently situated in downtown Philly only steps away from Rittenhouse Square and numerous shops and restaurants. It’s a perfect location to discover the City of Brotherly Love by foot!
Sofitel Philadelphia – The Arrival
We arrived by car from NYC. The hotel was easy to find and you don’t have to worry to find a parking. Just stop in front of the main lobby and hand over your keys… gotta love valet parking! But as in every big american city, it is not cheap : $41 a day.
The welcome at the frontdesk was good as usual, nevertheless we had to wait for our room to be ready. This was quite annoying especially because it was past official checkin time.
Sofitel Philadelphia – The Junior Suite
The room is quite large (45 sqm). There’s a small corridor leading to the the living room with a convertible sofa, a desk and tv. The master bedroom has a comfortable bed and tv. A double door separates the bedroom from the living room so that the kids and adults each have their space. We had a coffee machine which we never used.
The bathroom can be reached from from either side of the Suite. It has a bathtub, a shower and a single sink. I was surprised to find Lanvin amenities instead of the usual Hermes products in Sofitel Hotels. I like the Lanvin products better because I think that the Hermes scent (Eau d’Orange Verte) is not for women! It smells too manly!
The dressing is nice and we were provided with bathrobes and slippers.
On my birthday, I got a surprise from the hotel. A plate with cookies and fresh fruits and a note from the front desk. Nice touch!
Sofitel Philadelphia – Breakfast Chez Colette
On Sundays you can have brunch at Brasserie Chez Colette. They set up a buffet and you can eat as much as you like. Having stayed at other Sofitel’s before, we were a little disappointed by this brunch. The choices were quite limited for a buffet breakfast. The next morning we ordered à la carte and it was much better! Fresh and tasty pastries, eggs and pancakes for the kids. And the best, kids eat free!
Sofitel Philadelphia – Liberté Urban Chic Lounge
After exploring the city, we decided to have a drink at the hotel bar. My husband had a cocktail were you barely tasted any alcool and my sparkling wine was really bad. The lounge is dark and the whole lacks of atmosphere. Were we unlucky that day or is it standard?
