In June 2017, we headed to the Belgian coast for the weekend. The first night we stayed in a very original place: a Homeboat in Westhoek Marina, Nieuwpoort. Unfortunately a second night was not available, so we had to find another place to stay. As we heard that the Ibis Styles Nieuwpoort had just opened the same week, we decided to go for it!
From outside, the hotel is very nice and looks pretty similar to a certain Disneyland hotel in Paris 🙂
We booked a family room with bunk beds for the kids on the Accor hotels website, but due to a bug in their system, the reservation somehow never made it to the hotel. So when we arrived for check in at 7pm, our plans to drop the bags in the room and go out for a well deserved dinner were a bit delayed. They informed us that we were not in their system, and that… the hotel was full for the night! After an investigation to find the problem, a call to the general manager, a last minute cancellation and a glass of Champagne at the bar, we finally made it to our room.
Thankfully the hotel was well equipped to keep the children busy during the wait. A nice kids corner with a soccer table, games and books is available next to the bar and the restaurant.

So, let’s go back to the room. Alas, no family room for us but a standard. As it was the very last available, they put mattresses on the floor for Alexandre and Chloé. It looked a bit like camping, but they slept quite comfortably. The room was of a decent size and obviously brand new, we might have been the first ones to sleep in there.
After a good night of sleep, we headed to the breakfast and were surprised by the quality. Nice choice of the usual breakfast items and natural orange juice. What the kids enjoyed the most, was the waffle maker where they could prepare their own waffles in less than three minutes.
An indoor pool, sauna and hammam will open at the end of the year. But in the meantime there’s a lot to do to keep you busy. Why not rent bikes, do a boat tour or a guided visit with Flanders Tours?
What we liked the most:
• brand new hotel and facilities
• breakfast included in the room rate
• free parking
What we liked less:
• the failure in their reservation system, resulting in a very late check in
