Hotel Mercure Sevilla Havana Cuba Review for Families

Out of the seven days we stayed in Cuba, we spent two nights at the Hotel Mercure Sevilla Havana. The hotel is located right in the city center, only three minutes from Parque Central. We found the location perfect for anyone who wants to explore Havana by walking, especially with kids.
We arrived at the hotel in a vintage american car and were taken care of by the hotel team.

Being greeted by the hotel manager upon check in while enjoying a freshly made Mojito was a very nice start. As most of the hotel is still in the original style, the walls and floors are really typical for Cuba, with a lot of amazing tiles. Just besides the front desk is the bar Patio Sevillano, a beautiful cozy patio with live cuban music all day long.

Hotel Mercure Sevilla Havana – The Room

Our room was a Junior Suite. It is basically two communicating rooms with a desk and a bathroom. As we already said, don’t expect the latest furniture. What we liked is that the outside of the hotel matches with the inside. The rooms are still in their original state but the bed is comfortable and everything was immaculate.

What is also great at the family friendly hotel Sevilla, is the pool. The place is just perfect to relax after visiting the city. It’s the largest hotel pool in the center of Havana. Next to it is a billiard table and a bar serving drinks and snacks.

Hotel Mercure Sevilla Havana – The Restaurant

But the best asset is probably the restaurant Roof Garden Torre del Oro on the 9th floor, with its high ceiling and panoramic views on La Habana. Every morning we enjoyed a nice breakfast buffet with this great view. Torre del Oro will soon offer a tasting menu which sounds very promising.

As you might know, browsing the internet in Cuba can be a nightmare. So you need a bit of luck. One day out of three, the internet was working perfectly. Unfortunately, the two others, it was not working at all. You’ll need to buy a card to get online (5$ an hour), but Accor Gold Members will get one hour free each day.

The hotel is 109 years old, so you can not expect the same level of comfort as in a brand new hotel. For example, the water temperature in the shower can vary from cold to hot in a few seconds, and the doors are not very well isolated from the noise. But as we said, you have to remember that you are in an old hotel, but above all, you are in Cuba.

The thing that makes this hotel stand out, is that the entire staff is committed to improve the guests experience. You are always greeted with a smile and nothing is too much trouble. Also, a drink is organized three times a week, where you can share your thoughts with the management team. The English level of the staff is good for Cuba, and some of them also speak French. Having stayed in three different hotels in Havana with our Kids, the Mercure Sevilla was definitely our favorite.
