If you are wondering what to to do in Sydney with your little ones, you are in the right place. During our trip around the world we had the pleasure to stay 4 days in Sydney. And here are our favorite free things to do in Sydney with Kids:
Walk around Sydney
Like in every city, no matter how big, our favorite way to explore is by walking. With the kids in tow, we walk at their pace, stop when they want to, look around, feel, hear and smell the city. It’s the best way to feel the vibes of Sydney.
Sydney Opera House
Walk around the Sydney Opera House or enjoy a special junior tour of the Opera House. You can also take the official guided tour and discover the history and stories behind one of the most iconic buildings in the world. Or, why not just sit on the steps and watch people?
Sydney with Kids – The Royal Botanical Gardens
Located next to the Sydney Opera House the Royal Botanical Gardens invite you for a stroll. It’s a 30 hectares oasis of calm right in the city centre. Tip: Take a free guided tour to learn more about the heritage and plant diversity.
Sydney with Kids – Darling Harbour
Take a walk around Darling Harbour. There’s so much to do and see here. Museums, shopping and dining at Harbourside are just a few of the things you can enjoy at this lively place.
Sydney with Kids – The Rocks and Circular Quay
What probably is our favorite part of Sydney, the Rocks is a mixture of old and new. From heritage architecture and cobblestone walkways to modern bars and restaurants the Rocks has it all. The “nurses walk” will lead you through the narrow alleys of this neighborhood.
- Don’t miss The Rocks Friday Foodie market. In the lovely open-air setting of the Rocks you can sample and buy local products.
2. Enjoy a croissant dipped in melted chocolate at Guylian Belgian Chocolate Café. Absolutely delicious! -> 91, George St.
Sydney with Kids – Museum of Contemporary Art
Sydney with Kids – Daytrip to Manly
Hop on a ferry to Manly at Circular Quay and you will enjoy amazing views of the Sydney, the Opera House and the Bridge. You may even have a chance to spot dolphins in the water.
When you leave the ferry terminal you can head straight to The Corso, which is the main street leading from Manly wharf to Manly beach. This Esplanade is dotted with great restaurants and cafés and a lot of shopping opportunities. Whether you like surfing or swimming, Manly Beach is perfect for both. If you like to snorkel don’t miss Shelly beach which is a marine conservation area. It is an easy 15 minutes walk from the south end of Manly beach.
Tip: The most convenient way to reach Manly is by the 18 minutes fast ferry leaving wharf six at Circular Quay.
