Sofitel Vienna Stephansdom Review

The Sofitel Vienna Stephansdom is located along the Danube, close to the city center, and only 5 min from the airport shuttle bus stop. The airport-city shuttle is the easiest way to reach the hotel, unless you want to grab a taxi.
When you enter the hotel you arrive in a very design lobby. As usual at Sofitel, the check in process was very friendly and professional. Hence it took us just a few minutes to get our room key and take the elevator to the 10th floor.

Sofitel Vienna Stephansdom – The Room

We opted for the Luxury Room as it is the only room type with two double beds. Entering the room is impressive. Everything is immaculate white, from the wall, to the ceiling and the floor, making the room very luminous. On one side, a huge glass window offers a stunning view on Vienna. Unfortunately, there are opaque stickers on about 75% of the window surface. This is of really bad taste and gives the impression to be trapped inside a hospital room. Although we tried, we cannot understand why anyone would want to put these stickers on the windows.

The bathroom is really nice and like the room, all white. We had a double sink, a bath, a separate shower and a separate toilet. The bathroom is inside the sleeping room, but you can isolate it by pulling wall divider panels. At your disposal is a Nespresso machine and various sorts of tea. The minibar is free of charge, but contains only water and juice. So if you want another soft drink or a glass of wine, no chance to take it in the minibar and charge it to your room. You’ll have to call the room service and make it deliver.

Das Loft – The Bar

The Bar is located on the 18th floor and offers amazing views of Vienna. Watching the sunset with a glass of Champagne is a must! Nevertheless, there is still room for improvement in terms of service, regarding the usual Sofitel standard. For example, the glass of Champagne is brought to the table already served in the glass, same applies for the wine, which is for us a nogo in a bar like this. The snacks that come with the drink are reduced to the strict minimum. If only they could provide the same service level as the Bar at Sofitel Munich, it would be an outstanding experience.

Das Loft – Breakfast

Breakfast is served in the panoramic restaurant on the 18th floor. The view during the day is as breathtaking as during the night. The breakfast is a buffet offering a great choice of products, but you can also order some à la carte items, like your favorite style of eggs or pancakes, included in the breakfast price. Service was good.
