The Scandic Ishavshotel location couldn’t be better. The hotel is situated in downtown Tromso right by the quay. The airport is less than 20 minutes away or if you arrive via a Hurtigruten, you can literally step into the lobby right from the ship. Another advantage of staying here is that all the tours depart from the Radisson Blu hotel which is situated just opposite the Scandic.
Scandic Ishavshotel – The Lobby
We arrived around midday but unfortunately we had to wait until 2pm to get our room. A room was provided to store our luggage in the meantime. Hard to say if the room really wasn’t ready or if it is their standard procedure to wait until official check in time. Whatever the reason, we used the time to take a first glimpse of the city and eat lunch. Staff at the reception were really helpful. They made several phone calls because our son lost his hat during an excursion.
Scandic Ishavshotel -The Room
When we stepped into the room we were surprised about its tiny size. With our two big luggages it was really hard to move around but the kids were happy to sleep in a bunk bed. As a welcome gift they got a booklet with pencils. The view of the harbour, the water, the bridge, the Arctic Cathedral and the mountains was stunning and made up for its small size. We only were in the room to sleep anyway.
View from the room
The bathroom was also very small, yet handy. We loved the heated floor and the FACE Stockholm soap and shampoo.
Scandic Ishavshotel – Breakfast at ROAST
The breakfast buffet was huge and according to hubby’s words “one of the best ever”. The variety of products is endless as you can see in the pictures: Continental, full English, fruits, yoghurt, bread, teas and coffee…They even had macarons. The only hiccup is that it could get really crowded. Depending on the time, one has to wait to find a table.
What we enjoyed the most:
• View from the room
• Family room
• Friendly staff
• Still and sparkling water available from a self service machine 24/24
What we liked less:
• Size of the room
• Waiting to get a table for breakfast
Tip: ask for a room with water and mountain views
