A way too short stay at the Peninsula Bangkok

On the journey back home from Ko Samui, we chose to stay one final night in Bangkok. The Peninsula Bangkok has been on our wishlist for quite some time so naturally that’s where we booked for our last night in Thailand.

The Peninsula Bangkok is located on the Chao Phraya River. The drive from Suvarnabhumi international airport takes about 1 to 1,5 hours depending on the traffic.

The Lobby at Peninsula Bangkok

As the taxi leaves the hustle and bustle of the main street up to the hotel entrance, you are immediately beamed to the tranquil and serene environment of the Peninsula. As the car pulls up in front of the hotel, the doors are opened and luggage is taken care of. Upon checking in we are offered thai hand garlands that smell heavenly and are escorted to our room on the 33 floor.

The Room at the Peninsula Bangkok

As soon as the door opens, we are mesmerized by the stunning views on the Chao Phraya river. Next, we discover the lovely welcome treats that have been left in the room, including chocolate and sweets, macarons, fruits and mango sticky rice – delicious!Peninsula Bangkok view 33 floor

Upon entering the room is a large walk-in closet with a lot of storage. The room decoration and equipment is very posh and luxurious. Light, a/c, curtains are controlled via a central panel on the nightstand. There’s also a large work desk, power sockets and USB ports to recharge all electronic equipment.

The marble bathroom has a separate toilet, shower and a bath tub. All Peninsula hotels, feature Oscar de la Renta bathroom amenities. They are our favorite scented hotel amenities. We still remember them from our first stay at the Peninsula in Tokyo!

Peninsula for Kids

Children are more than welcome at the Peninsula Bangkok. How cute are the cake pops and balloons that were waiting for them in our room?

In-room dining

As it was already late for eating out, we decided to order from the in-room dining menu. The selection is large, ranging from thai food to western cuisine as well as plenty options for kids meals. Alexandre and Chloé had some Fish & Chips and Spaghetti while we opted for the Thai Green Curry with prawns and a Club Sandwich. The food was nicely served, very tasty and good value for money.

Breakfast at River Café and Terrace

We had breakfast at the River Café and Terrace. Tables are set out on the shaded banks of the river or you can eat in the a/c restaurant inside. The breakfast spread is impressive. You can choose between the asian station, eggs made to order, freshly cut fruits, pastry and breads and juices. Everything was delicious and it was by far the most exhaustive and tastiest breakfast we had in the 2 weeks in Thailand.

The Pool

The pool offers incredible views on the Chao Phraya river combined with outstanding service. If you are an anxious parent, you’ll be happy to know that a lifeguard is on duty during the pool opening hours. As soon as you arrive, the pool staff bring fresh water (refilled all the time) and regularly some treats like a small coconut ice cream or fresh fruits. Service at the pool was really outstanding. After 12 days of Thai food, we were happy to snack a delicious Club Sandwich and a pizza by the pool. The pool remains open until 9 p.m. which is definitely an asset if you want to relax in the evening, or if you promised the kids that they can enjoy the pool after a heavy day of cultural visits.

The Peninsula SPA

Unfortunately our stay at the Peninsula was too short to experience the SPA, but as you can see, the entrance looks very promising!

The Peninsula Riverboat

The Peninsula riverboat operates daily from 6am to midnight taking you either to the Peninsula Pier Lounge or the Taksin Pier where the Skytrain station is located.

What we enjoyed the most

• Outstanding service
• Delicious Food
• View from the room
• Pool
• Location on the River (free boat shuttle service)

We can only recommend staying at the Peninsula if you are traveling to Bangkok. The value for money is very good. Luxurious accommodations, combined with impeccable and kind service made it a memorable stay.
We can’t wait to be back!
