Grand Hotel Poltu Quatu Sardinia – MGallery by Sofitel Review

In June 2017, we did a 5- day trip to Sardinia and choose to stay at the Grand Hotel Poltu Quatu, a MGallery collection hotel managed by Sofitel. We rented a car at Olbia airport and 45 minutes later, we arrived in the charming little village of Poltu Quatu. The hotel has a parking at the entrance, but we drove about 100m further down to park in front of the main lobby. A staff member took care of our luggage and while we were checking in, parked our car. The architecture of the lobby is really special as the ceilings are not flat but rounded. The facade is immaculate white giving a beautiful contrast with all the flowers.

The check- in process was smooth and despite our early arrival time, the apartment was ready. The lady from the front desk escorted us to our accommodation. When we booked the hotel, we had the option between two communicating rooms or the two bedroom apartment and we do not regret our choice.

The Surroundings

The surroundings are picturesque and very well maintained. An abundance of flowers decorate the area. Just below the hotel is the harbour of Poltu Quatu. It is small, but perfect for a little walk, a glass of prosecco or an ice cream from the local shops.

Grand Hotel Poltu Quatu – The two- bedroom apartment

The apartments are located slightly hillside, aside the main hotel building. Entering the apartment, was the main living room with a small kitchenette (but don’t expect a lot of cooking here, there was no oven nor microwave but just two small cooking stoves. Cutlery was minimalist, four pieces in total, and for wine glasses, a trip to the hotel bar was necessary. On the other hand, the fridge was quite big and there was even a freezer. Anyway, as we prefer to try local restaurants rather than cooking while on holidays, this was not an issue for us.

Attached to this main room was a lovely terrace with a great view of the village. The apartment was divided in two. The kids part with two single beds, its own bathroom with shower, and a separate access to the resort. The adults part had a big bedroom with a king sized bed at the end of a small corridor. We had as well our own bathroom with shower.

Breakfast at Sea View restaurant

Breakfast was amazing. The choice of products was endless, ranging from 6 different sorts of milk, sparkling wine, smoked salmon, choice of local delicacies and cakes, freshly made juices etc. You have the option to enjoy your breakfast inside, or on a lovely terrace facing the marina. The only downside of the terrace is that the tables are only for two. The waiters were very attentive and efficient.

Grand Hotel Poltu Quatu – The Pool

The pool was really nice. Water temperature was around 25 degrees, so a bit cold, but the kids had a great time and it was pleasant to stay around the pool to enjoy a cocktail and read a magazine. Another asset, especially with kids, is that the pool is monitored by lifeguards. They will also provide towels and set up the sunbeds for you.

Next to the adults pool, you can enjoy Mediterranean specialities at Gusto grill. ( open for lunch only)

Parking

The hotel has a private parking at the entrance. You can leave your car there but first you’ll have to call the frontdesk to open the gate, same to exit, which is not very convenient. Another option is to leave your car at the front desk, as they have a free valet service.

What we enjoyed the most

• Spacious apartment with a large terrace and beautiful view

• Large pool with lifeguards and the availability of a kids pool

• Beautiful, well maintained surroundings

• Excellent breakfast, included in the room rate

• Possibility to get a courtesy room for late checkout as the apartment was not available anymore

What we liked less

• Isolated location, but only if you have no car

• No children menu available at Tanit restaurant

• Expensive hotel restaurants and room service (29€ for a Club Sandwich)

Tips

A rental car is a must if you want to explore the region or even to go to the beach. The hotel does provide a beach shuttle but with limited seating and on a predefined schedule.
