Easter at the Anantara Bophut Koh Samui Resort

During our Thailand trip in April 2017, we spent a week at the Anantara in Koh Samui. Our booking included transfer from/to the airport and as soon as we got off the plane and collected our luggage, we were greeted by the hotel staff who drove us to the hotel. A large air conditioned van took us to the Anantara Bophut Koh Samui Resort, located 15 minutes from Koh Samui airport. In the van, we were handed cold towels and water to refresh.

The Anantara is located on a calm stretch of the beach in Bophut only steps away from the lively Fisherman’s Village.

The Lobby

When we arrived at the hotel, we were greeted by a gong and escorted to the library for check in. During the wait, we were offered tea and thai sweets.

The Junior Garden View Suite

At Anantara Bophut, the 106 rooms are laid out on three floors around the pool and a lily pond. The resort is quite small in size which makes it very easy to navigate. Like the resort, the rooms are quite modest in size but nicely furnished. The bed is very comfortable too. Instead of the regular pull out sofa for the kids, they added two extra beds to our room making it unfortunately very cramped. It looked like one enormous bed, not even leaving space for night stands.

On the other hand the in-room amenities are great: a Nespresso machine and mini-bar but we especially liked the separate wine fridge. Every evening we found some nice little treats in the room, like gummy bears for the kids, cookies or sleep well messages written on a leaf.

Unlike the room, the bathroom is spacious and separated from the room by a sliding door. All rooms have a big bathtub, a double sink, separate toilet and walk in shower and plenty of bathroom amenities.

The outdoor terrace was furnished with table and chairs. We used to have a glass of wine here but it really lacked of privacy and light at night.

Breakfast at High Tide

Breakfast is always one of our favorite moments while on holiday, and this one did not disappoint. There was a decent choice of bread and pastries, fresh fruits, egg station with pancakes and waffles, and a local food stand. Nevertheless, as the hotel was very busy it could be very crowded. We always went shortly before closing time to avoid queuing at the buffet.

Beach Dinner and Show

The hotel organises weekly themed evenings, and one of them is a beach BBQ with a fire dance show. As we had friends staying in Koh Samui, we invited them for this evening. Eating on the beach was very pleasant, especially for the kids who could play in the sand under supervision from the kids club staff. The choice and quality of food was good.

Anantara Bophut Koh Samui Resort – Pool and surroundings

The resort is gorgeous, no doubt. Be it the back with the lilly pond and lush garden or the beachfront and the infinity pool.

The Kids Club Baan Ling Noi

Alexandre and Chloé were always happy to go the Kids Club to play with other children. The ladies in charge took well care of them. As an example, activities at the kids club included Thai dancing, balloon art, stone painting but what our children liked best was towel animals folding. They learned how to fold an elefant with towels and were more than proud to show us what they learned. For Easter, they organised an Egg hunt game around the pond garden which was really fun.

The SPA

The Spa is set in the midst of a beautiful peaceful garden. Unfortunately, we found the massage and treatment prices too high for Thailand.

What we enjoyed the most

• Location, close to Fisherman’s Village

• Friendly staff

What we liked less

• Pool closing at 6pm
• Over priced SPA

Tips:

During the Easter week and school holidays in general, the hotel is very popular with families so you may want to take this into consideration. Even us traveling as a family with school aged children thought there were too many loud babies and very young kids.
